Marzzulles grew up in Columbus, Ohio. His basketball career started
in junior high school, where he made the All Junior High All Star Team
at Champion Junior High School. He received 12 of 13 votes to make
the Columbus All Conference Junior High School Team. Marzzulles finished
first in individual scoring, with a total of 272 points scored. He
started on the varsity his first year at East High and made a sudden
death shot to beat undefeated North High while on the way to wining
the district championship in 1959.
Marzzulles came to Flint his senior year in 1959, and started at guard
for Flint Central. A few of his teammates included Keith Richardson
Bates and Dale Lucas.
After graduating from Central High, Marzzulles went on to play Junior
College ball. He scored 71 points in five games and averaged 19.5 in
seven league games. He was selected to the Michigan Junior College
All Conference First Team. He led Flint Junior College in scoring with
360 points in 19 games and a 18.9 average.
Marzzulles was also selected to the National Junior College Athletic
Association Region XII All Star Team.
