Charles Teaberry was born and raised in Flint and attended Fairview
and Dewey Elementary, Lowell Jr. High and graduated from Flint Northern.
He attended Michigan State Normal (Eastern Michigan University) and
Flint Junior College (Mott Community College).
Growing up, Charles loved basketball and wherever there was a basketball
hoop, you found Charles shooting baskets. He shot baskets in backyards,
at the St. John Street Center, Berston Field House and of course, the
school gym.
Charles was one of the first in Flint to develop an effective jump
shot while playing at Northern under Coach Carl Stelter
As a midterm graduate in 1953-54, Teaberry received an honorable mention
on the Michigan High School All State Team. That same season Northern
won 13 and lost 2, winning both the city and valley titles.
While at Northern, Charles played with basketball greats such as Art
Johnson, Joe Roberson, Jim Vukovich and Frank Manley.
Charles remained at Michigan State Normal (Eastern Michigan University)
for one season. He returned to Flint and enrolled at Flint Junior College
where he became the leading scorer in the Junior College Conference.
He set Junior College records and made the Junior College All Star
Team.
In later years, Charles received his PhD. from Stanford University.
He is President and CEO of his own company, Educational Testing, Inc.,
in Marina Del Ray, California.
Charles is an avid tennis player in the American Tennis Association.
He won the sixty's singles in 1995 and 1996 and in 1997, he won the
sixty singles and doubles in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Teaberry is the number one tennis player in the American Tennis Association,
Men's Sixty Single Division
