Cloyce grew up on the north side of Flint, where he attended Parkland
Elementary, Emerson Junior High, and because of school boundary changes,
he graduated from Central High School.
As a child, Cloyce played basketball at the St. John Street Center
and Berston Field House.
If school boundary lines had not been changed during his high school
years, Cloyce would have played basketball at Northern High School
with other great players, such as Gene Summers, Jessie Johnson and
John Gillian, just to name a few.
Cloyce made All Saginaw Valley his senior year, scored 100 points
in 14 games and ranked number one among Central scorers. He tallied
94 points in nine game for a 10.4 average. His team won the District
Championship, where Cloyce scored 25 points.
As a part of the team that won the Junior College Conference Championship,
Cloyce scored 19 points and pulled down 21 rebounds to defeat Traverse
City, 84 to 76.
Cloyce was known as one of the most respected players in the AA City
League and was awarded the AA City League Sportsmanship Award.
He entered the AA.City League as team player for The House of Spencer.
He also played for the teams of Julie's Pawn Shop and Avery's.
Cloyce is employed at Delphi West where he is a QN Representative
and very active in the UAW.
Cloyce is active in his church and the community. He also holds the
position of third vice president of the Flint Branch of the NAACP.
Cloyce has been a positive role model for his family and the Flint
community.
Congratulations, Cloyce Dickerson, Sr., you have made your mark in
Flint history.
