Reginald Gillard, a Flint native, attended Fairview, Lowell Jr. High,
and graduated from Flint Northern High School. He was a real competitor.
Discipline, attitude and conditioning were top priority to him. At
Northern he wanted to excel in sports and emerged as a great athlete.
The 1957 basketball team city and regional champions, Reggie was the
team's second leading scorer with 84 points. . In 1958 Reggie was basketball
team captain, unanimous all valley forward, the teams leading scorer
with 246 points, and averaged 13.8 points a game.
The Northern track team of 1957 was valley and regional champions.
Reggie was the valley 120 high hurdles champion with a time of 15.1;
Valley non-grad 120 high hurdles champion with a time of 15.4. Valley
non-grad 180 low hurdles with a time of 20.8; The regional broadjump
champion, jumping 20' 3.5" and regional 120 high hurdles champion
with a time of 15.6. He had the most individual points scored at regional
and was the only double winner in the regionals. On Northern's 1958
valley champion trackteam, Reggie set a broadjump record of 22' 8.25".
He was regional broad jump champion with a 2O' 9" jump, regional
2O high hurdles champion with a time of 15.2 and 180 low hurdles with
a time of 20.1. His explosive quickness and moves made him a great
athlete in basketball and track.
Reginald is now employed at Lucas Body Systems.
