Dr. Lee Jones, a native of Flint, is an example of hard work and perseverance.
He was fortunate to have lived in a community surrounded by great athletes.
He attended Parkland, Emerson and Northern. While at Northern he earned
seven varsity letters in football, basketball and track. In 1950, Lee
earned All Star status in football and basketball. In 1951, he gained
honors as All City and All Valley End, and was voted All State honorable
mention in football. His teammates voted him co-captain.
In basketball he was the teams leading rebounder and second team All
Valley forward.
After graduating from Northern, Lee enrolled at Flint Junior College
and was selected the student council president. He was Flint Junior
College's leading scorer in the Michigan Open Tournament.
In the 1953-1954 Flint Junior College season, Lee was the second leading
scorer and second team All Conference Forward. In his Flint Junior
College career he scored 552 points, averaging 13.1 points a game.
In the following basketball season at Flint Junior College, he was
voted All Conference Michigan Junior College Forward.
In 1956 Lee enrolled at Hillsdale College and played football and
basketball. That year he was named to the Second Team All State Squad
as an end. In 1956 he was Hillsdale's leading pass receiver and third
leading scorer.
The basketball team voted him their Most Valuable Player.
Later, Lee enrolled at U of M Dental School. He now lives in Ann Arbor
with his wife and family, where he has a private dental practice.
