Moses came to Flint in 1968 and worked for AC Spark Plug. In 1969
Moses was hired in the Beecher school district as a teacher at Summit
Jr. High School. At Summit he was a physical education teacher, coaching
football and basketball. In 1974 Moses was moved to Beecher High to
teach physical education and to coach football and basketball.
Moses was assistant football coach (lineman) from 1974-1998 and assistant
basketball coach from 1974-1978. As assistant basketball coach Beecher
had four Big Nine Championships and a Class B state championship. In
1976, Beecher had a record of 27-0. Moses became head coach of Beecher
High basketball team in 1978. In fifteen years as head coach, Moses
won nine conference championships and two class B state championships.
In 1985, 86, 87, 88 and 1990 Moses had a total of 59 straight Big Nine
conference wins.
Not everyone agreed with Moses Lacy’s style, but he had the
respect of his peers. During his coaching career Moses produced such
names as Carl Banks (MSU), Courtney Hawkins (MSU), Joel Thompson (U
of M), Taron Burgess (Western), John Wiley (Minnesota), Moses Rison
(CMU), and Thadus McFadden (Wisconsin), just to name a few.
Moses is retired and lives in the Flint area. Moses you have made
Flint proud, this is truly your night.
