Parent: Cloteal Coney (Mother)

Craig grew up on 9th Street on Flint's south side. He attended Clark
Elementary, Whittier Junior High, and graduated from Flint Central
High School.
Craig's sports career began in junior high school. He was beat in a
game of table tennis by a young girl, and from that day on, Craig said
he would never be beaten by a girl again. He went on to win 14 table
tennis championships and a Gold Metal at Ballenger Field House. Out
of eight pre-olympian meets, he won seven first places and won four
matches to capture the Flint Olympian title. The only persons Craig
remembers beating him at table tennis was his Uncle Willie Moore and
his son Jimmy Moore (both GFAAHF inductees).
At Flint Central, Craig was named to the Second Team Saginaw Valley
Conference Basketball squad. He scored 334 points for a 15.9 average
and a team record of 18 wins and 3 losses under Coach Clif Turner.
He played on Central's team that won the City Valley and District finals.
Coach Turner said "Craig is #2 scorer, #2 play maker and #3 rebounder." No
one else rated that high in all three categories.
Craig went on to Oakland University, where he had a 14 point scoring
average as a sophomore and first in assist. Against Wayne State, Craig
led the scoring for the Oakland Pioneers with 24 points, six of which
was in overtime play.
In the Michigan Open, Craig teamed up with Ken Brady and Freels Bacon
averaged over 20 points each. Ken is a 2000 GFAAHF inductee.
In the Class AA League, Craig teamed up with Tim Bograkos, played 31
games and their average gave them the best scoring output by any guard
combination in the league. Craig was the number one scorer for Northwestern
Mutual Life Insurance and was known as the best corner side court shot
in the city.
He was picked by the Flint Journal as one of the top twenty players
in the past decade.
Craig is an Assistant Vice President for Career Alliance in Flint.
